How do you tackle the challenge of fuelling them through a 3-hour stint when each pit stop is just 20 seconds long?

DRIVING HOUR
FOCUS ON:
60g carbohydrate feed at each pit stop.
GOAL: Maintain blood glucose levels, sustain high levels of carbohydrate oxidation, reduce central neural (brain!) fatigue.

RECOVERY HOUR
FOCUS ON:
Topping up the fuel tanks.
GOAL: Start to refuel with a recovery shake and snack bar to maximise glycogen resynthesis in the liver and muscles.

Replacing 150% of body weight lost through sweat.
GOAL: Return the driver to a state of euhydration before getting back in the car.

Small low fibre, balanced meal.
GOAL: A low fibre meal reduces fluid loss through bowel movements and reduces risk of digestive discomfort later.
